Tableau - NYC Eve @ Harsh Collective
PRIVATE EVENT: TABLEAU COMMUNITY ONLY
Join us in the Lower East Side for our monthly NYC meet up! We will be hosted by Harsh Collective this month. Drinks & small apps will be served :)
Their current exhibition we will be visiting: Brave New World, a duo exhibition featuring Alexandra Houx Grounds and Tara Lewis, curated by Juliette Eberle. The exhibition will take place from March 15–April 10, with an opening reception on March 15th, from 7-9 p.m., at 133 Eldridge St, New York, NY 10002. The exhibition will feature several new paintings from each artist. As part of Grounds’ presentation, the opening reception will feature an immersive AI print station presented by EverArt. The platform will allow a limited number of visitors to become part of the creation process as they directly prompt and interact with an AI model trained on Grounds’ distinctive painting style. This allows visitors to create their own art print of anything they can imagine, and with the help of AI, the creation will be made exclusively with Grounds’ painting strokes and color hues. The exhibition will explore the relationship between Lewis and Grounds as mentor and mentee, and the effect each artist had on their respective practices. Their relationship began nearly a decade ago when Lewis was Grounds’ art professor and mentor at Phillips Exeter. Both Lewis and Grounds utilize portraiture to explore the dichotomy of the contemporary moment: the yearning to embrace the nostalgic past whilst adapting to the futuristic present. The duo challenges preconceived notions of authenticity, personhood, agency, and the female experience through their reciprocal artistic languages of iconography and technology, respectively.

Industry Insight Panel: Featuring Writer, Editor and Historian Tony Perrottet
PRIVATE EVENT: TABLEAU COMMUNITY ONLY
Arts & travel writer, editor and historianTony Perrottet’s works regularly with various publications including: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Smithsonian, Travel & Leisure, the list goes on. We’re sitting down with him to chat about how he navigated his career in writing, how he built his connections in the publishing world, how he pitches to publications, and what he enjoys writing about most.
About Tony: The need for perpetual motion has always been Tony Perrottet's most obvious personality disorder. While studying history at Sydney University, the Australian-born Perrottet regularly disappeared hitch-hiking through the Outback, sailing the coast of Sumatra or traveling through rural India (enjoying a brief and inglorious career as a film extra in Rajasthan). After graduation, he moved to South America to work as a "roving correspondent," where he covered the Shining Path war in Peru, drug running in Colombia and several military rebellions in Argentina. A brief visit to Manhattan fifteen years ago convinced him that New York was the ideal place for a rootless wanderer to be based. From his current home in the East Village of Manhattan, he has continued to commute to Iceland, Tierra del Fuego, Beijing, Tasmania and Zanzibar, while contributing to international publications including Smithsonian Magazine (where he is a Contributing Writer), the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, Esquire, Outside, Afar and the London Sunday Times.
Perrottet is the author of six books — a collection of travel stories, Off the Deep End: Travels in Forgotten Frontiers (1997); Pagan Holiday: On the Trail of Ancient Roman Tourists (2002); The Naked Olympics: The True Story of the Greek Games (2004); Napoleon's Privates: 2500 Years of History Unzipped (2008); The Sinner's Grand Tour: A Journey Through the Historical Underbelly of Europe (2012); and most recently, ¡Cuba Libre!: Che, Fidel and the Improbable Revolution that Changed World History (2019). His travel stories have been translated into a dozen languages and widely anthologized, having been selected seven times for the Best American Travel Writing series. He is also a regular television guest on the History Channel, where he has spoken about everything from the Crusades to the birth of disco.
