A Moment with Lina Vonti

How would you describe the working creative scene in Finland at the moment?

In Finland contemporary art is huge, it's most of the art that's being shown in galleries and sold. In my opinion in Finland there are not many artists who create realistic paintings, most of the art is abstract. I've lived in Finland only for 7 years and that's so far what I've noticed in a contemporary art scene here.

How did you get started?

I started painting at very young age and studied art for decades before even considering it as a career. My art career I started when I sold a first painting, since then I've been working towards a goal to be a full time artist.

Describe your work in 5 words.

Impressionistic, effortless, bright, contrasty and colourful.
My style tend to change with time and I also like exploring new subjects which also affects my style a lot.

Where do you gather most of your inspiration from?

My work is mostly inspired by nature and surroundings, I get very inspired on my morning walks with my dog Frannie. When I walk in nature it always makes me feel energized and excited to create art. I also like visiting museums and getting inspired by other artists online. Instagram is a great place to find inspiration, it's full of new contemporary artists and their brilliant work.

What have you learned the most in the past year as a creative?

I learned that sometimes it's better to create art as a hobby, it takes the pressure off and I can create only what I want, what I feel passionate about. When art is a job it's easy to get distracted by what others want me to create, but not what my intuition tells me to do. So I learned to check up with myself every once in a while to really understand if I am making art I really want to make, or I'm just following other people's directions.
